Mount Dora Florida is blessed with plentiful and relatively inexpensive open space, which makes for great equestrian lifestyles. In January of 2014, there were over 120 single family homes for sale in Lake County with over 5 acres of land. Many of these homes are zoned for horses and the rolling hills of Mount Dora make a beautiful backdrop to a field of grazing horses.
Lake County is a paradise for both the professional and the novice equestrian. No matter what your discipline, Lake County has it to offer; from world-renowned equestrian facilities for boarding and lessons to hundreds of miles of trails.
A must see for any enthusiast is the Florida Carriage Museum and resort in nearby Weirsdale. This 400 acre riding facility offers lodging, horse shows and carriage lessons with your horse or theirs. Central Florida is also the home of the Greater Orlando Hunter and Jumper Association, better known as the GOHJA, which offers a monthly horse show circuit and popular year end banquet. Visit their website at www.gohja.org for a calendar of events and a list of local barns and trailers.
Rocking Horse Stables located just south of the entrance to the Ocala National Forest is a 150 acre equestrian facility with over 100 cross-country jumps from beginner to advanced. There is a 250’ by 150’ fenced jump ring and three permanent dressage rings. All rings have all-weather clay/sand footing. For overnight stays, we have 104 permanent stalls and 13 paddocks available for rent.
