Until
1988, Clermont was a sleepy town known for it's famous Citrus
Tower located on Highway 27. This 226 foot tall tower
was constructed in 1956 and allowed visitors a 360 degree
panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. At that
time, the land surrounding the tower was totally covered in
lush green orange groves. In those days, highway 27
lined with dark green trees, hanging orange fruit covering
hilly terrain was one of the more beautiful Florida highways
to travel.
In 1988/89 two
disastrous back-to-back freezes decimated the orange crops
which opened up large tracks of land for home site
development. Most of these homes were sold to young
families and employees of Disney World the other local Theme
Parks. The opening of a new Florida Turnpike entrance
and the housing boom added to the development. Today,
the orange groves have been replaced with housing developments
and shopping centers.
Clermont's
convenient proximity to Orlando is a big reason for the area's
increased demand as a desirable location. Clermont is a
great choice if you need a fast commute to Orlando. Downtown
Orlando, the airport and the major theme parks are within a 30
minute drive.
Clermont is truly the
crossroads of Florida, located at the intersection of State Road 50, which
runs east and west across the State and U.S. Highway 27, which runs north
and south through the center of the state. Nestled in the rolling hills of
Lake County, Clermont has a high elevation of 300 feet and a low elevation
of 100 feet. It is bordered by Lake Minnehaha on the South, and Lake
Minneola on the North. Clermont is on a chain of 16 lakes connected by the Palatlakaha River in the Ocklawha Basin of tributaries of the St. Johns
River, the only river system in the U.S.A that flows north.
This website also contains a powerful search feature that
provides direct access to the State of Florida Multiple
Listing System (MLS). This is the same database that Realtors
use to find property for their clients. We know how
frustrating it can be to call on an advertised property and
find that it has already been sold. Our listings are
automatically updated as soon as a new property comes on the
market and removed as soon as it expires or becomes pending.
We hope you enjoy your visit and will not hesitate to contact
us if you have questions or wish to tour our available homes.
