The small town of
Astatula Florida is located on Highway 561, just south of
the City of Tavares. The town, with a current population of
about 2,000 residents, is located directly on the eastern
shore of Little Lake Harris. Astatula has an active commercial
park with a number of light industrial and warehouse
businesses.
Of special
interest to lakefront property buyers, are the numerous Harris
Chain canals located on the east side of Little Lake Harris.
The development of Lake Harris Shores has the deepest canals
on the Harris Chain. These canals remain navigable
during the severest of droughts.
Highway 561 is
one of the most picturesque roads in Florida. This
winding two-lane road snakes through the hills near Sugarloaf
Mountain with the Harris Chain in plain view from it's
overlooks. The road terminates in Clermont, about 30 minutes
to the south.
